The HR-V is Honda’s sporty and capable subcompact crossover. It introduces Honda’s spectacular line of crossovers, and this year’s HR-V is a next-generation version that is loaded with exciting improvements. Many crossover shoppers at Umansky Honda debate between buying the HR-V or the larger CR-V. The CR-V is a compact crossover SUV that brings its appealing style and a few extra features to the table. After you get to know the CR-V and the HR-V in full detail, which model will you select?
Throughout the HR-V’s four trim levels, and I-4 engine that produces 141 horsepower sits under the hood. This engine is linked with a continuously variable transmission with a sport driving mode. The top three trim levels add paddle shifters for enhanced functionality. In comparison, the 2021 Honda CR-V is also available with one gas-powered engine throughout its four trim levels, and a hybrid engine is an option for the top three trim levels. The gas powertrain is an I-4 turbo engine linked with a CVT transmission, and it delivers 190 horsepower. The hybrid powertrain pairs an I-4 engine with an electric motor, an electronic CVT, and three driving modes. This equipment produces 143 net horsepower.
The 2021 Honda HR-V is the smaller and more affordable of the two models, and this is evident through a visual review of the two crossovers’ profiles. The HR-V has a slightly tapered roofline and a significant angle through the rear windshield. The CR-V, on the other hand, has a flat roofline with a taller liftgate. Both of these models carry LED lights, powered and heated side mirrors, fog lamps, a power liftgate, and other equipment in select or all of their trim levels.
Honda Sensing® safety features, cloth seats, and a folding rear row are standard equipment throughout the HR-V’s and the CR-V’s trim lines. Both of these lovely crossovers add Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated seats, a more advanced sound system, and other equipment in their higher trim levels. The interior designs are relatively comparable, and the CR-V has more cargo and cabin space because of its larger exterior dimensions.
